On a warm afternoon in April, I had the pleasure of observing a very well-run Girls on the Run Program.
Mount Airy Elementary has a lot of enthusiastic girls this season, and a team of cheerful, energetic coaches to match.
I feel great about our mission, our core values, and our ideals. This organization is all about empowering young women to be the best version of themselves and develop self-esteem that will carry them through the rest of their lives. I love coming to work every day and being part of this.
We hear all the time from parents and girls about how the complicated journey of adolescence was so much easier with the foundation of confidence and values learned during our program.
The impact of Girls on the Run can be best understood by hearing the personal stories of the girls and their parents.
There has never been a better time to show up for girls… and you’ll get something out of it too!
When girls are navigating the complex and challenging pathways of adolescence, they are faced with many opportunities to refine their own values. Girls are learning what kind of people they are, and what kind of women they want to be when they grow up. Throughout these formative years, they are witnessing countless acts of kindness and empathy, but also many examples of behavior that may challenge their personal ideals.
We are pleased to announce the 2016 Lisa Martin Energy Award recipient is Elizabeth Blom Schultz...Mrs. Schultz...Ms. Blom! Elizabeth has coached at Bellows Spring Elementary for the past 12 seasons. She also currently serves on our Board of Directors.
There is an expression that says “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” I never really considered myself a “lucky” person, even as a kid. It wasn’t until I won a raffle at school one day when I realized that not only was I preparing for an opportunity--but that my luck was about to change.
